LQSE Heads to Quantum 2.0 Conference and Exhibition

LQSE is heading to the Quantum 2.0 Conference and Exhibition alongside the Optica Quantum Industry Summit 2026 in Glasgow, 16-17 June 2026. The event brings together researchers, engineers, technology developers, and industry leaders working across the rapidly evolving quantum ecosystem. Representing LQSE at the conference will be Dr Siyuan Ji, Reader in Model-Based Systems Engineering and Group Leader of the LQSE Research Group, alongside Stephen Powley, Senior Research Associate in Systems Security. The conference provides an important opportunity to engage with the wider quantum community at a time when quantum technologies are increasingly moving from laboratory research into deployed socio-technical systems.

The Optica Quantum 2.0 series focuses on the next generation of quantum technologies, including quantum computing, quantum communications, sensing, metrology, photonics, and system integration. This year’s event is co-located with the fifth Optica Quantum Industry Summit, which places particular emphasis on industrialisation, commercialisation, and the development of scalable infrastructure. For the LQSE group, the event aligns closely with our mission of establishing Quantum Systems Engineering as a practical and rigorous engineering discipline capable of bridging quantum science and real-world operational systems. Our work focuses not only on quantum technologies themselves, but also on the assurance, integration, governance, and engineering methodologies needed to deploy quantum capabilities reliably within existing infrastructures.

As the quantum sector matures, many of the key challenges are increasingly systemic rather than purely scientific:

  • How can quantum technologies be integrated into existing digital and communications ecosystems?

  • How can organisations assure the reliability, safety, and trustworthiness of quantum-enabled systems?

  • What engineering approaches are needed to support scalable deployment and lifecycle management?

  • How do we create robust interfaces between classical and quantum infrastructures?

These questions sit at the heart of Quantum Systems Engineering.

The conference also presents an opportunity to strengthen collaborations across academia, industry, and government. LQSE continues to expand its research activity in areas including quantum communications assurance, model-based systems engineering, digital assurance, and the development of engineering approaches for emerging quantum-enabled systems. Recent projects have included close collaboration with industrial partners and work connected to secure quantum communications infrastructure. We look forward to engaging with colleagues from across the international quantum and optical communities during the week and sharing insights from the event afterwards.

About LQSE

The Loughborough Quantum Systems Engineering Research Group is dedicated to advancing Quantum Systems Engineering as a distinct multidisciplinary field. The group brings together expertise in systems engineering, quantum technologies, assurance, modelling, and digital engineering to support the transition of quantum innovation into practical application.
